Friday's 2002 NCAA Women's Final Four Semis

March 30, 2002

San Antonio - UConn blew out Tennessee. OU shocked Duke.

Earlier in the season, the Sooners lost by 14 to the Huskies in Storrs, Conn., and now the two face each other for the 2002 title. But everyone knows all of this.

So, here are some things you might not know from the Alamodome.

* Friday's attendance for game one ranks No. 2 for a women's basketball game with over 29,000.

* Pat Summitt has never looked so distraught. Everything she tried, failed. But, guarantee, the title is hers in three years. Why? Her freshmen saw significant minutes this season, and some high school All-American watched the game and now wants to give something to the coach who means more to women's basketball than most will ever really, truly realize. Oh, and Summitt will do a heck of a job recruiting this off season.

* Stacey Dales' behind the back pass in the first half was so pretty to see up close, that the mishandling of the ball was a moot point. It was so pretty. Mmmm.

* Iciss Tillis was 8-for-20 from the field. But she scored a team-high 19 points, including 13 in the second half to bring Duke within 62-60 with just over eight minutes to play.

* The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has done a nice job with the convention, hoop city and parties. I mean...

And one thing you really should know since the crown has already been given to Connecticut. Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said her team will show up for Sunday's game. So, Sears, don't engrave just yet.

And a rivalry that has outgrown them.
