Interview with Sam Cassell

Bucks' guard Sam Cassell discusses his contract

June 13, 2001

Before the Houston Comets practiced today, Milwaukee Bucks' guard Sam Cassell discussed being a part of an effort to raise money to help support the numerous people who were effected by the tremendous floods which impacted the Houston area last weekend.

Sam also talked about his current contract status with the Bucks. He reiterated he wants a contract extension not a trade.

"I got some issues with my contract," Sam said. "they'll have to abide by or I'm out. I'm looking forward to going back to Milwaukee. I think it will get done; but, it's a business. Guys want to get compensated for what they do. I think I do a lot for the Milwaukee Bucks. I've made the statement that 'everyone is benefitting off of Sam Cassell, but Sam Cassell'. It's that simple."

"It'll all work out. It has to if I'm going to be a member of the Milwaukee Bucks."

Cassell added he may sit out training camp if he doesn't receive a contract extension: "If I have to, if that's the situation, that may happen. If they don't want to do the right thing by me, I can't be somewhere where I'm not treated fairly or for what I bring to the basketball team. They understand that. They know how I feel. I said it twice this year. I don't have to keep saying it. They understand how I feel about my contract situation; so, either they're going to make it happen or, you know, I can still play."
