UCF's Tay Sanders, SMU's Kayla White, Tulsa's Temira Poindexter Secure AAC Women's Hoops Honors for week ending January 16

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, January 16.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Tay Sanders * 5th-Year Senior * Guard * UCF

Sanders was a standout for first-place UCF in a pair of crucial conference victories, averaging 20.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and a 57.7 percent shooting percentage for the week. Sanders tallied 23 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 62-59 win over Houston on January 11. Sanders then hit 63.6 of shots from the floor (7-of-11) for 18 points with three boards and a pair of steals in a 67-51 rout of No. 24 South Florida on January 16.

Kayla White * Senior * Guard * SMU

White exploded for SMU in a two-game conference sweep during the week, averaging 26.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest. White scored a conference season-high 34 points on 11-of-18 shooting (.611) with six rebounds to carry the Mustangs in a 60-49 win against East Carolina on January 13. White added 19 points and five rebounds, including the tying and go-ahead shots in overtime, to defeat Tulane 67-62 on January 15.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Temira Poindexter * Forward * Tulsa

Poindexter registered a first career double-double for Tulsa in a 71-59 win over East Carolina on January 11, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds (six offensive) for the Golden Hurricane in the victory. Poindexter added three assists, two blocks and two steals to the stat line in the win.

Weekly Honor Roll

Bethy Mununga * Senior * Forward * South Florida

Mununga averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game in a 1-1 week for No. 24 South Florida; logged 26 points and 12 rebounds in a road victory at Tulane (January 12).

Mia Davis * Grad * Forward * Temple

Davis narrowly missed a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds in a conference triumph against Houston (January 15); added four assists and a pair of steals in the win.

Arsula Clark * Redshirt-Senior * Guard * Tulane

Clark registered 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game for Tulane; scored 17 points and dished out five assists against No. 24 South Florida (January 12) and hit a buzzer beater to send the game to overtime as part of 18 points and six rebounds at SMU (January 15).

Wyvette Mayberry * Sophomore * Guard * Tulsa

Mayberry scored 24 points, hitting all nine shot attempts from the free-throw line, for Tulsa in a win over East Carolina (January 11); chipped in three rebounds and four assists.

Jane Asinde * Junior * Forward * Wichita State

Asinde averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 Wichita State week; scored 17 points with six rebounds and a career-high four steals in a win at Cincinnati (January 13).
