East Carolina's Taniyah Thompson, Memphis' Makaiya Brooks Win American Women's Basketball Awards for week ending December 26

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, December 26.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Taniyah Thompson * Junior * Guard * East Carolina
Thompson turned in a fourth straight game with 20 or more points for East Carolina during a win over UMES on December 21, accounting for 26 points to lead the Pirates to an 85-57 victory. Thompson hit 9-of-16 (.600) shots from the field, including 4-of-7 (.571) tries from beyond the arc, and pulled down five rebounds in the ECU triumph. Thompson is The American leader with 17.9 points per game and six 20-point games thus far this season.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Makaiya Brooks * Guard * Memphis
Brooks poured in a career-high 12 points to help Memphis down Nicholls 71-54 on December 20. Brooks hit all four attempts from 3-point range over 15 minutes of play to share the team lead in scoring in the win for the Tigers.
Weekly Honor Roll
Tatyana Hill * Senior * Post * Houston
Hill scored 15 points, pulled down nine rebounds and added three steals for Houston in a convincing 78-51 win over Corpus Christi (December 21); hit 6-of-8 (.750) shots from the field over 19 minutes in the victory.
Jamirah Shutes * Senior * Guard * Memphis
Shutes shared the team lead with 12 points for Memphis in a 71-54 victory against Nicholls (December 20); added four rebounds and a steal in the win.
Elena Tsineke * Sophomore * Guard * South Florida
Tsineke averaged 15.0 points, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week for South Florida at the West Palm Invitational; scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting in a 77-55 win over West Virginia (December 20).
Mia Davis * Graduate * Forward * Temple
Davis equaled a season high with 25 points to lead Temple in a 71-68 defeat against Old Dominion (December 22); added six rebounds and three assists to the stat sheet.
Mariah McCully * Senior * Guard * Wichita State
McCully scored a game-high 23 points to pace Wichita State in a 68-55 setback against Kansas (December 21); chipped in three rebounds and two steals against the Jayhawks.
