Cincinnati's Akira Levy, Tulsa's Temira Poindexter Claim AAC Women's Basketball Week 1 Awards

Here are the winners of the American Athletic Conference's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, November 14.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Akira Levy * Jr. * Point Guard * Cincinnati
Levy quarterbacked Cincinnati to a 2-0 start to the 2021-22 season during Levy's debut in the Bearcat backcourt. Levy averaged an even 15.0 points per game and paced The American with 7.5 assists and 4.0 steals per contest in the wins. Levy opened the season with 12 points, six assists and four steals in a 73-60 win over Alabama A&M on Nov. 10. Levy then shot .545 from the floor to tally 18 points while dishing out nine dimes and again adding four steals in a 72-59 Cincinnati triumph over Bellarmine on November 12.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Temira Poindexter * F * Tulsa
Poindexter enjoyed a dynamic debut for Tulsa, coming off the bench to make a major impact in a 77-62 win for the Golden Hurricane against Duquesne on November 11. Poindexter scored a game-high 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, chipping in five rebounds and two assists in the victory. Poindexter's 23-point performance led all freshman players from The American during the opening week of the season.
Weekly Honor Roll
Diamond Battles * Senior * Guard * UCF
Battles averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 assists per game in a 1-1 UCF week, hitting at a .667 clip from 3-point range; scored 16 points with five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a win over Duquesne (Nov. 9) and tallied 21 points against No. 15/12 Tennessee (November 12).
Taniyah Thompson * Junior * Forward * East Carolina
Thompson logged 19.5 points per game and 3.0 steals per contest during the opening week for East Carolina; hit 6-of-7 shots from beyond the arc and finished with 28 points and eight rebounds at High Point (November 12).
Emani Jefferson * Sophomore * Guard * Memphis
Jefferson recorded 16.5 points per game and averaged 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals for Memphis in a 2-0 start, shooting .875 from the field and .792 from the line on a conference-high 24 free throw attempts; scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds against SIUE (November 14).
Sydni Harvey * Junior * Point Guard * USF
Harvey averaged 17.5 points per game and shot .500 from the floor and .529 from beyond the arc in a 2-0 South Florida week; went for 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting (6-of-8 from 3-point range) and four rebounds in just 21 minutes against Alabama State (November 11).
Asia Strong * Senior * Forward * Wichita State
Strong registered 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for 2-0 Wichita State, hitting .545 from the field; scored 17 points and pulled down seven boards in a win at Wyoming (November 13).
