USF's Elisa Pinzan, Tulane's JerKaila Jordan Named Top Players In Women's Basketball Week Eight

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, January 17.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Elisa Pinzan * Junior * PG * USF

Pinzan shined in a nonconference road tilt at Tulane on January 13, scoring a game-high 22 points while adding in seven assists, six steals and three rebounds in a 19-point win. Pinzan's steals total tied a conference high for the season against a Tulane offense that ranks third in The American in total turnovers per game. Pinzan leads all American players with 79 assists and 7.2 assists per game (ranked third nationally) and is also first in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (4.6, third in the NCAA).

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

JerKaila Jordan * Guard * Tulane

Jordan secured freshman of the week honors for the fourth time this season after a pair of solid performances in a 1-1 Tulane week. She averaged 16.5 points on 61.9 percent shooting and 4.5 rebounds per game against No. 16/17 USF on Jan. 13 and on the road at Tulsa on Jan. 16. Jordan tallied 11 points, four boards, three assists, a block and a steal against first-place USF before going off for 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting (4-for-4 from 3-point range) with five rebounds and two steals in a victory over Tulsa.

Diamond Battles * Junior * Guard * UCF

Battles averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a pair of UCF wins; scored 11 points with three rebound and five assists at East Carolina before logging 14 points, four boards, five assists and three steals against Cincinnati

Julia Blackshell-Fair * Senior * Guard * Houston

Blackshell-Fair was a key member of a 2-0 Houston week after posting 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest last week; blitzed Tulsa for 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists and added five assists, five rebounds and two blocks against East Carolina

Arsula Clark * Senior * Guard * Tulane

Clark averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for 1-1 Tulane; scored a team-high 20 points and pulled down five rebounds against No. 16/17 USF and went for nine points, six rebounds and five assists at Tulsa

Jasha Clinton * Freshman * Guard * Temple

Clinton scored a team-high 23 points to lead the way for Temple in a competitive showdown with Cincinnati; hit 4-of-9 shots from 3-point range and added four rebounds, five assists and four steals

Maya Mayberry * Junior * Guard * Tulsa

Mayberry logged 16.0 points per game for Tulsa in two starts during the week; tallied 11 points at Houston and contributed a team-high 21 points against Tulane
