UCF's Kay Kay Wright named AAC Player of the Week; ECU's Taniyah Thompson named AAC Freshman of the Week

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, February 16.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kay Kay Wright * Senior * Guard * UCF
Wright powered UCF to a pair of victories over the weekend that extended the current winning streak for the Knights to four games. She averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists in wins at Houston on Feb. 12 and at home against Cincinnati on Feb. 15. Wright finished the Houston game 11-of-17 from the floor (season-high 64.7 percent field-goal percentage) as part of a 23-point, three-rebound and four-steal outing against the Cougars. Wright then sank 9-of-10 free throw attempts against Cincinnati, including a perfect 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter, and ultimately finished with 16 points and eight boards against the Bearcats.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Taniyah Thompson * G * ECU
Thompson earned freshman of the week plaudits for the second time this season after lighting up the scoreboard for East Carolina in two games last week. Thompson averaged 20.5 points and 2.5 steals for the Pirates in road contests at SMU on Feb. 11 and at Memphis on Feb. 15. She turned in a game-high 23 points and added four steals to power the ECU attack at SMU, adding three rebounds to her stat line. Thompson closed the weekend with 18 points, a blocked shot and a steal in a 61-57 ECU triumph at Memphis.

Averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 5.0 steals for Wichita State in a 1-1 week against Memphis (Feb. 12) and Tulane (Feb. 16); scored 17 points and added a career-high seven rebounds along with three steals against Memphis, and logged a team-high 19 points and a career-high seven steals in a one-point win at Tulane

Shined for Tulane despite a pair of losses to USF (Feb. 13) and Wichita State (Feb. 16), averaging 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the week; scored 17 points and pulled down five rebounds against USF, and erupted for 31 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with six assists and four rebounds against Wichita State
Olivia Nelson-Ododa * Sophomore * Forward * UConn
Averaged 15.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game for UConn in a 1-1 week that featured games at No. 1 South Carolina (Feb. 10) and USF (Feb. 16); scored 10 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks against top-ranked South Carolina, and scored 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds with four blocks in a win over USF
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu * Junior * Forward * Memphis
Averaged a double-double of 16.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game during a 1-1 week for Memphis that featured games at Wichita State (Feb. 12) and against East Carolina (Feb. 15); scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in a win at Wichita State, and added 13 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals at home against ECU
Angel Rizor * Senior * Forward * Cincinnati
Logged 13.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game for Cincinnati against Tulsa (Feb. 12) and at UCF (Feb. 15) last week; posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds (seven offensive) in a win over Tulsa, and finished the week with 12 points and five boards in a defensive battle with UCF in Orlando
