East Carolina's Taniyah Thompson, Temple's Jasha Clinton Earn Week Five American Women's Basketball Awards for Week ending December 27

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, December 27.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Taniyah Thompson * Sophomore * Guard * East Carolina
Thompson enjoyed an impressive showing on December 22 against Tulane in the fourth straight victory for East Carolina, scoring a season-high 27 points in the Pirate win. Thompson was 11-for-19 from the field in the contest, including an impressive 9-for-13 on 2-point attempts, chipping in six rebounds and two assists in 39 minutes. Her 12 points in the fourth quarter alone led all players in the game, helping quell a Tulane surge that saw the visitors pull within five points midway through the final quarter.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jasha Clinton * Guard * Temple
Making her fifth career start in the Temple backcourt, Clinton filled the stat sheet in a conference win over Tulsa on December 23 to bring the Owls to 2-0 in American play. Clinton tallied 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, pulled down six rebounds, dished out three assists and notched two steals against Tulsa. She caught fire in the second half, scoring 11 of her points and pulling down four rebounds in the game's final 20 minutes. The stretch helped Temple pull away from a one-point deficit midway through the third quarter.

Williamson scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting (.727) in the conference victory against Tulsa; added five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot
Sydni Harvey * Junior * Guard * USF
Harvey tallied a season-high 21 points to power USF to fourth straight win as the Bulls raced past Cincinnati; hit 5-of-11 shots from beyond the arc to go along with two rebounds and a pair of steals
Eryka Sidney * Redshirt-Senior * Guard * Houston
Sidney scored 18 points for the shorthanded Cougars in first career start at Houston in a conference triumph at Memphis; dished out seven assists and gathered in five rebounds in the win
IImar'I Thomas * Senior * Forward * Cincinnati
Thomas scored a game-high 32 points, third 30-point showing of the season, to go along with six boards, five assists and four steals in a loss against No. 20/22 USF; leads all American players and ranks third in the nation with 28.2 points per game this season
Madison Griggs * Sophomore * Guard * Memphis
Griggs registered a team-high 17 points for Memphis in a conference setback against Houston; hit 5-of-12 shots from 3-point range and added two rebounds and three steals
