Cincinnati's IImar'I Thomas named AAC Player of the Week; UConn's Anna Makurat AAC's Freshman of the Week

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors, for the week ending Monday, January 26.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
IImar’I Thomas * Junior * Forward * Cincinnati
Thomas averaged 27 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 69.7 percent from the field in two league wins for Cincinnati last week. The junior set a new career-high with 35 points in an 85-66 win over Houston on Wednesday, going 14-of-22 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line while snagging 10 rebounds. She followed with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting, seven boards and three assists as the Bearcats edged Temple on Sunday, 86-81.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Anna Makurat * Guard * UConn
Makurat repeated as the Freshman of the Week following UConn's wins over No. 23 Tennessee and ECU. She averaged 14.5 points, six rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals per game on the week, including a career-high 24 points on Saturday against the Pirates; she recorded eight 3-pointers to tie the American Athletic Conference single-game freshman record. Against the Vols, Makurat turned in a well-rounded performance with five points, eight boards, four assists and three steals in 37 minutes.

Averaged 16 points, five rebounds and an assist per game in UCF's 1-1 week; scored 20 points with nine boards in a one-point loss to Tulane on Wednesday and posted 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a win over Memphis Saturday

In USF's 2-0 week, averaged 7.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and two blocks per game; posted a 13-point, 15-rebound performance at Wichita State on Wednesday and netted a bucket with 10 boards as the Bulls handed Tulane its first conference loss of the season Saturday
Ariana Whitfield * Junior * Guard * SMU
Came off the bench to score 23 points with a career-high nine field goals in SMU’s 57-38 win over Tulsa Saturday; dropped five 3-pointers and grabbed six boards with a steal in 25 minutes
Mia Davis * Junior * Forward * Temple
Posted her 13th and 14th double-doubles of the season in Temple's 1-1 week; scored 20 points with 14 boards in the Owls’ 76-72 win over Penn and followed with 23 points and 11 rebounds at Cincinnati on Sunday
Krystal Freeman * Junior * Forward * Tulane
Averaged 16 points and nine rebounds, shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) from the field; tallied 19 points with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals in a win over UCF on Wednesday before scoring 13 points with nine boards at USF on Saturday
