Rice's Erica Ogwumike Selected C-USA Player of the Week
POSTED: February 4, 2019 -- 4:30 p.m. CST
Rice junior guard Erica Ogwumike was named the Conference USA Player of the Week after helping guide the first place Owls to a pair of wins this weekend, the conference office announced on Monday.
The Owls (18-3, 9-0) extended their winning streak to 11 straight with victories over Charlotte and Old Dominion, respectively. Rice's 11-game win streak is currently tied for the third-longest in the nation, trailing only Oregon (14) and Missouri St. (12).
Over the weekend Ogwumike, from Cypress, TX, averaged 17 points, 14.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals while making all 12 free throw attempts in 37.5 minutes per contest.
In Rice's 61-51 win over Charlotte, Ogwumike scored a game-high 22 points to go along with 15 rebounds, the second-most boards by a C-USA player this season during league play. The C-USA Preseason Player of the Year recorded another double-double (11th of season) in Saturday's victory against Old Dominion, scoring 12 points and snagging 14 rebounds.
The award is Ogwumike's third career C-USA Player of the Week and the first this season.
Out to their best 21-game start in program history, the Owls hit the road for a pair of C-USA contests starting with WKU on Thursday, February 7, at 6 p.m. (CT), on CUSAtv. Rice will then travel to Marshall on Saturday, February 9, for an 11 a.m. (CT) tip-off.
