POSTED: February 11, 2019 -- 3:20 p.m. CST
Rice junior guard Erica Ogwumike was selected the Conference USA Co-Player of the Week after helping lead the first place Owls to a pair of critical road victories last weekend, the conference office announced on Monday.
The Owls (20-3, 11-0) set a new single-season program record by notching their 13th straight win with a victory at Marshall on Saturday and are currently tied for the second-longest active win streak in the nation. In addition, Rice now has the second-longest road win streak (9) in the country.
Ogwumike, from Cypress, Texas, averaged 21.5 points on 59 percent shooting to go along with 11.5 rebounds for the week.
In Rice's 68-46 win at WKU, Ogwumike scored a game-high 22 points to go along with 13 rebounds, helping the Owls earn their first-ever win at E.A. Diddle Arena. The C-USA Preseason Player of the Year recorded another double-double (13th of season) in Saturday's victory at Marshall, scoring 21 points and snagging 10 rebounds.
The award, shared with Louisiana Tech's Kierra Anthony, is Ogwumike's second straight C-USA Player of the Week and the fourth of her career.
Out to their best 23-game start in program history, the Owls return home for a pair of C-USA contests this week starting with FIU on Thursday, February 14, at 7 p.m. Rice will then host Florida Atlantic on Saturday, February 16, for a 2 p.m. (Central Time) tip-off.
