2019-20 SWAC Women's Basketball Honors Announced

The Southern Lady Jaguars were picked to win the 2019-20 Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season. Jackson State was picked to finish second. Prairie View was picked third.
Texas Southern senior guard Niya Mitchell was selected as the SWAC Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year. The senior forward from Bay City, Texas is coming off an excellent junior season where she averaged a double-double, scoring 14.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per contests.
Mitchell also averaged four offensive rebounds per game, while shooting 49.8 percent from the field. She averaged 2.3 steals per contest and recorded 1.9 assists per contest, while shooting 47 percent from the charity stripe. She also blocked 18 shots and scored 20-plus points on five occasions with a game-high 23 points against Alabama A&M.
