POSTED: March 11, 2019 -- 3:03 p.m. CDT
Rice Owls' freshman guard Chris Mullins was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team by the league's coaches and selected media, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
He becomes the sixth Rice player named to the team and the first since Marcus Evans in 2015-16.
The Grand Prairie, TX native leads the team with 12.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals. He is one of just five freshman in the country to lead their team in points, assists and steals.
Mullins has scored double-figures a team-high 22 times. He has led the team in scoring 10 times and in assists 10 times. The freshman has scored 20 points three times, including a career-high 24 vs. St. Edward's on Dec. 13. His performance that week earned him Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors.
Mullins leads the Owls into this week's Air Force Reserve Conference USA Tournament. Rice takes on Marshall at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, in Frisco, Texas.
