J'Wan Roberts commits to Coogs
September 2, 2018
The Houston Cougars men's basketball program received a verbal commitment from forward J'Wan Roberts earlier Sunday. Roberts' height is listed as either 6'6", 6'7", or 6'8" and his weight has been listed as either 180, 190, or 200 pounds.
Roberts attends Shoemaker High School in Killeen TX and hoops for Pro Skills on the grassroots circuit.
Roberts is a tremendous athlete with great timing to block shots.
6'8" J'Wan Roberts (2019/PF) showed plenty of coaches today how high his motor really is and that he will be a productive rim protector at the next level. He is very disciplined defensively in the paint! An efficient shot blocker while also being an elite finisher thru contact! pic.twitter.com/uaOSc4koPb— Brandon Jenkins (@Brandon_Jenkin5) July 27, 2018
The D1 Circuit: 'The 6-foot-6 uber-athletic junior may not be the tallest frontcourt player on the circuit, but his length, athleticism and natural shot-blocking ability helped separate himself from the pack at EYBL Dallas.'
Brian Snow of 247Sports, 'At around 6-foot-7 with long arms, high level athleticism and a big time motor, Roberts fits the type of player that Kelvin Sampson loves in his front court.'

In June, Roberts had received scholarship offers from Grand Canyon, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Sam Houston State, Seton Hall, St. John’s, and Texas State.
J’Wan Roberts of @NikeProSkills just went to absolute work here in Vegas in front of 50 coaches! It might be blow up time in his recruiting.— Michael Timmins (@iFilmHoopers) July 27, 2018
However, in July, Roberts received scholarship offers from Buffalo, Houston, Texas A&M, and Washington State.
Roberts joins 6'3" guard Caleb Mills as Class of 2019 commits to Coach Sampson and the Coogs. Mills announced his commitment to the Coogs in August.
