Rockets Acquire AJ Griffin

Posted: June 27, 2024 -- 6:40 p.m. CT

The Houston Rockets today announced they have acquired guard AJ Griffin from Atlanta via a three-team trade with Miami. The Rockets traded the draft rights to Pelle Larsson, who was the 44th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, to the Heat. In addition, Atlanta received the draft rights to Nikola Djurisic, who was the 43rd pick, from Miami in exchange for cash considerations.

Griffin (6'6", 222) was the 16th overall pick by Atlanta in the 2022 NBA Draft. He appeared in 92 games with 12 starts for the Hawks over the past two seasons while averaging 15.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.5 3-pointers made per 36 minutes played. For his career, the 20-year-old Griffin is shooting 37.2% from 3-point range and 89.8% from the foul line.

In his lone season at Duke in 2021-22, Griffin started the final 25 games while helping the Blue Devils reach the Final Four. He shot 44.7% from behind-the-arc, which is still the second-highest percentage by a freshman in school history.

AJ's father, Adrian, played nine seasons in the NBA and appeared in 19 games for Houston in 2003-04. Adrian was teammates with Rockets forward Jeff Green in Seattle during Green's rookie season in 2007-08.
