Posted: March 26, 2017 -- 8:02 pm CST.
HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Houston Rockets never trailed Sunday afternoon in a 137-125 thumping of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The game was never tied; and, the Rockets led by as much as 25 points.
Lou Williams scored a team-high 31 points (in 31 minutes). Trevor Ariza and Eric Gordon each scored 24 points; and, James Harden poured in 22 points and added 12 assists to give the Rockets four 20 points plus scorers in one game for the first time this season.
Harden has produced 20 plus points and 10 plus assists 46 times overall this season. No other player has more than 42 games doing so in a single season dating back to 1983-'84.
The Rockets shot 63.3% from the floor (50 for 79 field goals) which is the highest percentage since shooting 63.4% at Milwaukee on January 24, 1995.
"We were just making shots;" Mike D'Antoni said. "Lou was just making shots. It is a little frustrating when you're guarding the heck out of people and guys just keep making shots.
It's just a good rhythm. Guys played well. That's about it. I mean there's not a lot of whole rhyme or reason. You know. You just go on to the next one."
The Rockets jumped to a 10 point lead in the first quarter before OKC cut it to 2 points. The Rockets led 37-31 after the first 12 minutes.
The Rockets (51-22) erupted for 42 points in the second quarter and led 79-59 at halftime.
The lead ballooned to 25 points (113-88) after three quarters - thanks to a Harden 3 point buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter.
The Rockets took the proverbial pedal off the gas in the fourth quarter which allowed OKC (41-31) to get as close as 8 points (133-125).James Harden's 3 pointer beat the buzzer to give #Rockets 113-88 lead over the #OKCThunder - heading to the 4th. pic.twitter.com/KNGWoTAT3t— Kris M Gardner (@TheHRReview) March 26, 2017
"It's human nature. We let them back in a little bit. That's life," said D'Antoni after the game.
The Rockets host the Golden State Warriors this Tuesday, March 28. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
