Rockets announce 2011-2012 schedule
Posted: December 6, 2011 -- 7:42pm CST.
HOUSTON – The Houston Rockets tip off the 2011-12 regular season with a trip to Orlando to take on the Magic on December 26, which was announced today by the NBA. The Rockets open the 2011-12 home slate by hosting Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and the San Antonio Spurs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, which marks the first time in team history that home games will begin at 7:00 p.m. for weekday games.
For the 10th straight season, the Rockets will help welcome in 2012 at Toyota Center with a special 6:00 p.m. start on December 31, against the Atlanta Hawks. The Rockets will also help commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a 1:00 p.m. outing against the Wizards at Washington on Monday, January 16.
Overall, the Rockets will play 48 contests against Western Conference foes and 18 games against Eastern Conference opponents. Within the division, the Rockets face San Antonio and Memphis four times, while playing Dallas and New Orleans just three times. Houston's 66-game schedule also includes one stretch of three games in three days (December 29-31), as well as 21 sets of back-to-back outings. The Rockets face Atlanta, Detroit, Indiana, Milwaukee, New York and Philadelphia only once and at home. Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Miami, New Jersey and Orlando do not hit the hardwood in Houston this season. Eight of Houston's first 10 games of the campaign are against playoff teams from last season, while seven of the last 10 outings are against last year's postseason teams, including both NBA Finals participants. The longest road trip (six games: February 4-14) and homestand (six games: February 15-28) of the season both fall in the month of Feb.
