Thursday morning, Head Coach Ronald Hughey added Gavin Lyons to his staff as the women's basketball team's Director of Player Development.
Lyons joins the Cougars' staff from Minnesota where he worked in a variety of different roles and departments while with the Gophers, most notably though as an intern with the Minnesota women's basketball team during the 2022-23 season.
While with the Gophers, Lyons oversaw on campus recruiting visits and helped stat practices and games for the coaches. Lyons helped with player development through on-court coaching drills, breaking down film and through helping workout student-athletes.
Minnesota's freshmen excelled in 2022-23, as the group of freshmen averaged 43.8 points per game behind Mara Braun who just two weeks ago helped guide USA Basketball to a 2023 FIBA 3x3 U21 Nations League Asia-Pacific conference title, in Handan, China.
The Bloomington, MN, native graduated from the University of Minnesota-Mankato in 2021 before getting his Master of Education in 2022.
Octavia Barnes will stay on staff with the Cougars with the title Coordinator of Player Development.
