Marche Amerson, a wing forward from Rudder High School in Bryan, TX, and the Houston Elite AAU program, has made a verbal commitment to the Houston Cougars.
The news was announced by the Houston Elite via twitter.
"Marche is a long, rangy kid," said Houston Elite head coach Howard Randle. "She's got great hands and she can finish. She can play some at the four (post) and at the three (wing).
Randle added, "Marche wanted to stay close to home; and, she wanted the best opportunity on the court at success and getting to the NCAA Tournament."
Amerson helped leader Rudder HS to a 29-7 record in 2010-2011 and a quarterfinal berth in the Class 4A Region II playoffs.
Amerson's listed height ranges from 5'11" to 6'1"; however, the Class of 2012 forward is ranked 72nd nationally at her position by HoopGurlz.
Joseph Dean, of D1 National Report described Amerson's skills in a January 18 blog post:
Amerson continues to be an impressive player. Amerson is a nice prospect with adequate athleticism, size and length along with great shooting ability. In Amerson you got a versatile wing-forward that can put the ball on the floor, and also work you down in the post. She has excellent ball handling shooting, and passing skills with toughness at the basket. Amerson is also recognized by ESPN Hoop gurlz as one of the top prospects in the country and ranked in the top twenty in the state of Texas. Amerson is also a major prospect in the class of 2012 and will do great things at the next level.
As of June 28, 2011, Amerson was ranked 39th in Texas in the Class of 2012 by the Premier Basketball Report.
Amerson's verbal commitment is non-binding. LaSalle, Memphis, North Texas, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-San Antonio, Texas State, and Tulane were a few of the other schools to show interest in Marche.
The early National Letter of Intent signing period begins November 9th and ends November 16th. The regular signing period starts April 11, 2012.
