HOUSTON, TX -- Fertitta Center

The Houston Cougars defeated the Baylor Bears, 76-65, Monday night and improved to 20-4 overall and 12-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Houston won despite Baylor's 57.9 fg% shooting in the game.

"I thought we guarded them pretty well," Kelvin Sampson, Houston Cougars Head Coach said after the game. "It is almost like if we did not turn them over, they would score."

Baylor (15-9, 7-6) committed 15 turnovers in the game; and, Houston converted those turnovers into 28 points. The Bears entered Monday's match-up averaging 11 turnovers per game.

The Bears made 13 of 23 two-point field goals (56.5 fg%) and 9 of 15 three-point attempts (60.0 3pt%) in the game. And lost by double-digits.

Houston shot 50.9 fg% (27 for 53) in the game and spread the points around with a balanced scoring attack. Former Baylor guard, LJ Cryer, scored a team-high 15 points to lead five Coogs in double-digit scoring.

Milos Uzan was next with 12 points. Uzan, was more aggressive in the second half, scored 7 of his 12 points in the second half.

"We kind of freed Milos up in the second half to go make a play," Coach Sampson commented.

Terrance Arceneaux scored 11 points off the bench. Arceneaux made 4 of his 6 field goal tries. J'Wan Roberts and Emanuel Sharp each scored 10 points.

Sharp missed Houston's last 2 games due to an injured right ankle.

"It (was) good for him to get out there and get going," Coach Sampson acknowledged.

Led by Arceneaux's 11 points, the Coogs' bench brigade outscored Baylor's reserves 24 to 1. Houston guard Mylik Wilson scored 9 points in 14 minutes off the bench.

The Coogs led the Bears 38-30 at halftime before LJ Cryer knocked down back-to-back three-point shots to open the second half.

Houston led 54-45 before scoring 6 points in less than 60 seconds. Houston extended the run to 11-1 and led 71-46 with 5:43 remaining in the ball game. The Coogs turned a 9 point lead (54-45) to a 25 point margin in 4 minutes, 57 seconds.

Baylor closed out the game with a 19-5 run to make the final score more respectable.

Next: Houston's next game is scheduled for Saturday, February 15, at Arizona. Tip is set for 1 pm CT on ESPN.
