POSTED: February 16, 2019 -- 10:58 p.m. CST
HOUSTON, TX (Tudor Fieldhouse) -- The Rice Owls left no doubt which Owls team was better in the Saturday afternoon between them and the Florida Atlantic Owls. Rice walloped Florida Atlantic 63-35 and improved to 22-3 overall. Rice remains perfect in Conference USA with a 13-0 record.
Rice overwhelmed Florida Atlantic. FAU made 1 field goal in the first quarter and 1 field goal in the second quarter (2/26 in the half). Rice led 39-8 at halftime and cruised to the win.
"I loved the way we started the game," Rice head coach Tina Langley said. "I thought we had great intensity on the defensive end of the floor and came out and set a good tone for the game. I like the way we prepared for both games this week and I think you could tell that by the starts of our games. I was pleased by how we executed."
Erica Ogwumike tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes. Ogwumike has posted six straight double-doubles and 15 overall this season. Senior Shani Rainey scored 12 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Senior Nicole Iademarco added 10 points in 21 minutes.
Florida Atlantic 'got hot' in the second half and made 10 of 25 field goal attempts to finish the game shooting 23.5% (12 for 51).
The 35 points allowed by Rice tied for the second-lowest output by a Conference USA opponent this season and the fewest allowed by a Rice team since surrendering 31 points to UTEP in 2007.
Twelve players saw action for Rice. Eleven players scored at least two points.
