Posted: January 11, 2017 -- 10:25 pm CST.

HOUSTON, TX (Hofheinz Pavilion) -- The Houston Cougars women's basketball team led the UCF Knights 17-15 after the first quarter and 26-25 at halftime. However, poor field goal shooting plagued the Cougars and resulted in a 62-48 defeat Wednesday night.

Final box score: UCF 62, Houston 48

Houston (8-8 overall, 1-2 in the American Athletic Conference) made 6 of 13 field goal attempts in the first quarter; but, the shooting went into hibernation the final 30 minutes: Houston made only 9 of 35 attempts the final three quarters:

2 for 13 in the second quarter.

2 for 10 in the third quarter.

5 for 12 in the fourth quarter.

In addition to the woeful field goal shooting, the Coogs committed 16 turnovers in the final three periods.

The Knights (11-6, 1-3) blitzed the Coogs with a 22-9 third quarter and dominated the boards in the fourth quarter (14-5) to put the game away.

Angela Harris (11 points) and Jasmyne Harris (10 points) led the Coogs in scoring. Both freshmen, came off the bench.

However, after the game, Houston head coach Ronald Hughey said changes to the lineup will "definitely" take place.

Houston's next game is Saturday, January 14, at 2 p.m. on the road, against Tulane.
