Saturday, June 30, 2007HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Houston Comets lost to the Phoenix Mercury 92 to 75.
The loss ended the Comets four-game home winning streak.
Houston is now 4-12 with the loss while the Mercury's record improves to 9-7.
After the game, Comets head coach Karleen Thompson spoke with the media.
Hear her comments: "...looking at things positive..."
LOL!!!! Love the last questions!
Kris, I guess she won't confirm or deny that Dixon is coming. ;)
My question is, who was released after the game?????
That's what we were wondering too. BTurner played a few minutes as did Moore. Tari in street clothes.
Let's take bets. I will stick with it being Barbara Turner. :-(
For the record, I don't think we should drop anyone for Tamecka Dixon. This season is going nowhere, why drop any of these younger players?
As far as Karleen, I'm sorry, she turns my stomach more and more. Takes the safe route of taking no responsibility other than "we got away from that a little bit" - the strong post play to start the game with a decent lead. The coach shouldn't have let it get away from that IMO. Snow, Sancho and Tina - if you're gonna start with three posts like that, that's a good combo and that's who got your lead, Coach "coachspeak". So tired of her generalities. Just cannot believe she still has her job.
I think Tamara Moore will be released to make room for Dixon.
Dixon provides veteran leadership at the end of games, BUT against a team like PHX, she won't be able to keep up with their quicker/faster guards. So, I don't think she will be a difference maker over what we have. With Dixon, we still don't make the playoffs, so what is the purpose of signing Dixon?
HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Houston Comets 92 to 75 Saturday night in Toyota Center.
After the game, Mercury head coach, Paul Westhead, spoke with the media and gave his take on the game: "...we're happy..."
Tuesday, June 26, 2007HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Houston Comets picked up a gutsy 75 to 67 victory Tuesday night over the San Antonio Silver Stars.
The Comets (3-11) overcame 32 points from the Silver Stars' Becky Hammon thanks to solid team defense and balance scoring.
Four of Houston's five starters scored in double-figures.
After the game, during her post-game press conference, Comets head coach Karleen Thompson credited Sancho Lyttle and Mistie Williams for their solid efforts.
Lyttle scored a season-high 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in just 19 minutes while Williams came off the bench and scored three points; pulled down six rebounds; picked up one assist and one steal; and was a very active presence on defense in her 10 minutes and 28 seconds.
Williams played all but the final 33 seconds of the fourth quarter and helped the Comets outscore the Silver Stars 24 to 13 in the fourth period.
Hear Coach Thompson's press conference: "...Mistie stepped up
Friday, June 22, 2007HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- "We didn't play normal defense tonight, I thought we could have forced more turnovers tonight against Houston."
"The Comets took the momentum away from us midway during the 2nd quater, they shot the ball above 50% for the entire night; and, we were not able to stop them."
"We just have to put our talent together, and when that happens we will be alright."
Coach Rollins' comments on Alan Beard - "Alana Beard is a great leader and player for our team. There were times during the game that I think our team took some minutes off and we can't afford to do that."
Coach Rollins' comments on Monique Currie - "Currie is a good player and a very athletic player as well. She has come a long way on being in the league for 1 season."
Friday, June 22, 2007HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Houston Comets defeated the Washington Mystics 95 to 85 Friday night.
With the win, the Comets' record improves to 2 and 10.
Listen to Comets' head coach Karleen Thompson's post-game press conference: "...happy for them..."
Wednesday, June 20, 2007HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- "The turnovers are what hurt us in this game. I think it was more of what they did on defense that caused a lot of our issues."
"When the Comets, put Moore on Fernandez, you can tell what they were trying to do, Marta making her way to the basket, often at the begining of the second half, and the Comets knew they needed to stop that in order to win.
"I give them credit that was a good defense switch that I feel changed the momentum of the game."
HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- If you think Houston Comets' head coach Karleen Thompson was relieved and excited to end a 10-game losing streak with a 74 to 64 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks Wednesday night, you are definitely correct; however, I bet you'd be a little bit suprised to hear Coach Thompson's reaction.
Take a listen: "WOOOOH!!!!"
The Comets will go for win number two Friday night versus the Washington Mystics. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm at Toyota Center.
That game was worth the money spent by fans and "Media" alike. I wonder if we all did exactly the same as last nite, could it happen again?

Yes indeed, last night was a pretty awesome game. Maybe our team it finally beginning to jel as a unit(keeping my fingers crossed or whatever else will help). Let's hope so....
LET'S GO COMETS!!!
We should NOT be on the bottom of the standings...let's prove to the rest of the league that they are wrong about us.
HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- To say the least, Tina Thompson hates to lose.
Unfortunately for Thompson, the Houston Comets continued their worst stretch of basketball Monday night with an 82 to 67 loss to the Sacramento Monarchs Monday night.
The Comets are now 0 and 7 on the season; but, Tina still maintains a positive outlook.

Take a listen: "...keep our heads up..."

Saturday, June 2, 2007HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- If you believe in a good loss, the Houston Comets probably picked up one Saturday night in their 77 to 71 loss to the Detroit Shock.
Though the loss drops Houston to 0 and 4 on the 2007 WNBA season, the Comets made strides and battled the defending champs throughout the ball game.
Listen to Comets' head coach Karleen Thompson's post-game interview: "...very proud of the effort..."
