Houston Roundball Review Archive: August 2007 - No sense of urgency

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- Despite knowing the desperate need to win their remaining six regular season games in order to have a good chance to qualify for the 2007 WNBA Playoffs, the Houston Comets played a lifeless first half and were unable to defeat the New York Liberty Tuesday night at Toyota Center.

New York defeated Houston 77 to 71 before an announced crowd of 7,209.

After the game, Comets head coach Karleen Thompson spoke with the media: "...no sense of urgency..."

Yeah it's the coaches job to get the team motivated but what I saw on the court last night was some lazy ass women who seems like they just don't care and that's putting it mildly. Tina if you are ready to get back to Russia to make the $$$ I can't wait until the season is over for you to get to steppin'. Michelle if I was the GM you would have been gone in Feb. the only person that I've seen hustling through out the season has been Maiga if you don't believe look at her stats across the board. In my 11 years of supporting this team this is the first time that I've regretted spending my hard earn money to watch this sorry excuse of a team.

This game sums it all up. The Comets were talking about making a drive for the playoffs, and they can't beat New York?

Frankly, I have to wonder if the team (except Maiga Ba, Sancho and Mistie going by their energy) were affected by Tina's badly timed announcement to Fox news?

BUT, I definitely blame Karleen for this loss. She has to win the last 6 games and she is still experimenting with players' minutes!!!??? Helter Skelter STILL.

The biggies for me - Karleen took away alot of Sancho's minutes (DUH). Game, set, match.

If lack of urgency is a problem Karleen noted, then why didn't she put Mistie in much earlier and why did Mistie only play 1:21.

Same ole sheet from Karleen, and she needs to be fired.

It's not bias, it was plain from the start to me but look at the total results and look game to game.
