Monday, November 20, 2006The roller coaster ride that is the 2006-2007 Rice women's basketball team continued Monday night at Autry Court versus Sam Houston State.
The Owls began the season with three straight victories; followed by poor showings in two straight losses; now, Rice is winning again.
Rice defeated the Lady Kats 91 to 48; and, the game wasn't even that close as the Owls led by 50 points during the game.
Rice's sophomore post Emery Carter scored 20 points in her first career start.
The Owls forced 31 turnovers and picked up 18 steals. The Owls dominated on both ends of the floor, shooting 53.5 percent from the field while Sam Houston State (3-3) shot only 25.8 percent.
Following the game, after two losses, Owls' head coach Greg Williams said the team "...needed to get a win..."
The Owls (4-2) return to action Friday at 7 pm, hosting 10th-ranked Texas A&M at Autry Court.
Friday, November 17, 2006It's not too often a team attempts 101 field goals in a basketball game. It's even rarer for a team to miss 24 free throws in the same game.
The Mississippi Lady Rebels accomplished both in Friday night's 92 to 91 double overtime loss to the Rice Owls at Autry Court.
Owls' Head Coach Greg Williams spoke to the media after the game; and, he admitted: "looking at some of the numbers it looks like it adds up to a Rice loss".
With the win, Rice's record improves to 3 and 0 this season.

Greg Williams: "...48 point swing..."
As I continue figuring out ways to use blogs, I experiment with different ways to use the interviews I get.
This is another example.
Friday night, the Rice Owls defeated the Mississippi Lady Rebels 92 to 91 in double overtime. The game was definitely a wild one. Read this entry for yourself.
However, my experiment has to do with posting mp3s of a joint post-game interview.
Rice's Lauren Neaves (senior post player) and Kadie Riverin (junior guard) talked with the media after Friday's thriller.
Kadie hit the game winning shot; so, she's the first of the two to speak to the media. Neaves finished the game with 28 points and 17 rebounds while Riverin added 18 points; six rebounds; and five assists.)
Take a listen: "...huge..."
