Houston Roundball Review Archive: October 2006 Women's Hoops MP3s
Friday, October 27, 2006If you've heard me on the radio, you know I'm a proud product of the Houston Independent School District (HISD). I attended HISD schools from kindergarten through high school; and, my parents graduated from HISD high schools (Dad--Jack Yates; Mom--Phillis Wheatley). Therefore, not only do I try to promote Houston area players, I definitely try to promote players who are products of HISD schools.
Case in point, my first question to Colorado's Kathy McConnell-Miller, was about Bianca Smith -- a young lady who attended Bellaire High School (an HISD school).
Check out the interview -- Coach McConnell Miller says "...Bianca's doing great..."
I'm wrapping up posting my interviews from last week's Big 12 Media Day.
Check out this mp3 of my interview with new Texas Tech Lady Raiders head coach Kristy Curry. This isn't the first time I've interviewed Coach Curry. The first time occurred when she was the head coach at Purdue and she led her squad to Houston to face the Lady Cougars.
Coach Curry: "...we have a daunting task in recruiting..."
Texas Tech comes to Houston, Tuesday, November 14, to play the Lady Cougars. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
The game should be a good one.
I've begun to make good on my promise to cover Texas A&M this season.
I interviewed two key pieces to the Aggies' puzzle at the Big 12 Women's Basketball Media Day: forward Morenike Atunrase and point guard A'Quonesia Franklin.
Check out what two of the Aggies had to say...
Morenike Atunrase: "...we have to live up to it..."
A'Quonesia Franklin: "...208 days..."
From the first time I saw her at the Women's Final Four, I've wanted to interview basketball analyst, Debbie Antonelli. I got the opportunity to talk with Debbie last week at the Big 12 Media Day.
Take a listen -- Debbie Antonelli: "...I think the league is going to be a lot of fun..."
I'm finally able to post some of the comments from the interviews I got from last Wednesday's Big 12 Media Day. (My computer is still down; so, I'm using my best friend's laptop.)
Give a listen to these three interviews from three top notch women (not just head coaches): Oklahoma's Sherri Coale; Texas' Jody Conradt; and Baylor's Kim Mulkey.
Coach Coale: "...I think they have the right mindset..."
Coach Conradt: "...we have lots of questions..."
Coach Mulkey: "...very talented; but very inexperienced..."
Saturday, October 14, 2006With the start of exhibition play just over two weeks away, the University of Houston women¹s basketball team opened up preseason practice Friday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars, 12-17 (8-8 C-USA) a year ago, boast the return of four starters and a talented class of newcomers. UH opens up with two home exhibition contests, facing Lake Truck on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. and the Houston Jaguars on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
Houston grabbed the fourth spot in the preseason coaches poll with 99 points, including one first-place vote.
I spoke with Joe Curl, Lady Coogs' head coach, at the start of practice to get his initial thoughts on the upcoming season.
Coach Curl: "...our leadership is better ..."
