HBU Huskies announce 2011-2012 men's hoops schedule
September 6, 2011 -- 10:32 a.m.
Houston Baptist University has 14 home games, 13 road games and two neutral site contests to comprise its 2011-12 schedule, head coach Ron Cottrell announced Monday.
The Huskies will host Augsburg College from Minneapolis on Homecoming weekend in an exhibition game November 5 at Sharp Gym.
“We feel as though we’ve put together a quality schedule this season with a good balance of home and road games against name opponents, and home-and-home series with very good programs throughout the country,” Cottrell said. “Our fans will notice ‘marquee’ games at Washington and at New Mexico in the well-reknowned Pit, as well as a return game at Duquesne in Pittsburgh and our home schedule, which features Santa Clara and Rice.”
The Huskies open the regular season, November 11, on the road against Campbell in Buies Creek, NC, before returning for their home opener against Bethune-Cookman Nov. 14 at Sharp Gym. HBU has a home-and-home scheduled with both opponents, with Campbell visiting Sharp Gym December 14, and the Huskies traveling to Bethune-Cookman February 8 in Daytona Beach, FL.
The Huskies will host cross-town rival, Rice, Wednesday, November 30.
The Huskies will ring in the new year on the road, facing Duquesne in Pittsburgh, PA, December 31, then take on New Mexico January 3 at The Pit in Albuquerque, NM, but return home for back-to-back games before beginning Great West Conference play.
Defending conference tournament champion North Dakota visits Sharp Gym February 2, followed by defending regular-season conference champion Utah Valley February 4 to begin a stretch of four straight conference home games. HBU hosts Chicago State February 16 and NJIT February 18. The Huskies’ final road trip of the regular season is to Utah Valley February 23 and North Dakota February 25.
HBU wraps up the season at home against Texas-Pan American March 3, before heading to the Great West Conference Tournament in Chicago, Ill.
The entire schedule is posted on the Huskies' website.
