Sancho leaves on a stretcher and Lisa L goes to the free throw line??? What's wrong with that picture?

Not that it mattered, LA kicked butt and played like they wanted to win. Some of the Comets can talk all they want to about what they need to do to get back into winning. But I'd rather see them do it instead of talking about it. Some of the ones that comment the most, seem to be the same ones that I see putting in a half hearted (in her own terms "lackadaisical") effort at game time! JMO

Sancho left Reliant Arena on a stretcher after the game. She suffered a concussion late in the fourth quarter.

So far today, no word from the Comets on how she's feeling.

Post-Game Quotes for Los Angeles Sparks vs. Houston Comets – September 6, 2008, 7:30 p.m. CT at Reliant Arena

Houston Comets Head Coach Karleen Thompson

On tonight’s game

“Well, I believe we had what, eleven turnovers in the first quarter? We turned it around and took better care of the ball in the second quarter. But we have to come “game-ready” as a team. We have to get down and play defense and want to go after loose balls. We have to want to do what it takes to win games. This is a playoff run and you can not expect other teams to come in here and just lie down. They are not going to lie down so somehow, some way we have to find it within ourselves and get it done.”

On the upcoming second game of a back-to-back schedule against Phoenix

“We are not out of it but they have to get out there and fight. And you know they got out there and fought hard but we have those lapses. In a crunch time like this you have to play 45 minutes in a 40 point game. You have fighters out there but it is going to be a battle. Every second is going to be a battle and we just have to come together. We have to find out on the defensive end and get stops and not allow teams to just score on us. We have to dig in and try to get it done.”

Houston Comets center Michelle Snow

On the upcoming game against Phoenix

“We have to come and stick together. Against Phoenix you have to bring it for 40 minutes. They are a transition type team and I think we have to run transition too. We need to get on the boards and get out and play a lot more aggressively. Tonight we were very passive and it just looked like we were kind of lackadaisical.”

Houston Comets guard Tamecka Dixon

On what is required to win against Phoenix

“We just have to execute and stick to our game plan as a team when things get rough. If we can do that then we have a chance to win.”

Los Angeles Sparks Head Coach Michael Cooper

On tonight’s game

“Very good basketball game from the start, it was the first game in a long time that we played forty minutes of good basketball. We had some downs when we started the game, but we kept our composure, especially after losing a tough game to San Antonio last night.”

On DeLisha Milton-Jones, Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker playing in the Olympics

“I think it was good for all of them, Milton before she went had some Achilles problems and probably did not play as much as she wanted. And Silk [Candace Parker] didn’t play as much, but it was good for her to come of f the bench, it gave her appreciation for playing a lot of minutes here and she got to play with some good basketball players from all around. For Smooth [Lisa Leslie], she needed her core basketball game back. After sitting out for a year and coming back she wasn’t getting that.”

Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker

On Lisa Leslie

“She’s great. She’s always telling me what I can do. She’s a great teammate and leads by example.”

On reaching for WNBA Championship after winning the gold and NCAA Championship

“Definitely something I have looked forward to. I got two out of three and looking for the third, the Triple Crown I call it and its possible now.”

Los Angeles Sparks forward DeLisha Milton-Jones

On her performance tonight

“Great game, I have been working hard and the shots finally fell for me tonight.”

My goodness, what a game. Never did I expect to see a game like this. I am totally disgusted, and probably should not be writing this now, but I just have to. Nope, I'm going to stop, and wait till tomorrow night after that game. Will see.
